Hey Everyone!
Join us for our 5th annual Spring Wild Food and Medicine hike on the Appalachian Trail near Asheville, NC.
Wild Food and Medicine Hike
May 23-25, 2006 (wed-Fri)
on the Appalachian Trail in Madison County, NC
This Spring we will set off on the A.T. once again, and immerse ourselves in the green growing world, foraging and preparing wild edibles and medicinals along the way. Expect to witness the most biodiverse temperate ecosystem, overflowing with scores of tree species and hundreds of species of plants and mushrooms. Our friend Frank Cook will facilitate the learning
experience in the woods, with various others of us in attendance who have been learning together for years now. We will be exploring the botanical classifications of the plants we encounter, paying special attention to the edible and medicinal ones. Folks will be able to share knowledge and experience with the plants, and pass on bits of folklore we’ve picked up. We will forage medicinal plants for daily teas, and wild greens and mushrooms to supplement some staple foods we will provide.
We will ask for around $10 in donations for the food we provide, which will include breakfast porridge, wild rice for dinners, and condiments, spices and oil.
We ask you to consider also bringing along a donation for Frank’s teaching efforts, which you will surely realize are immense and extremely
energy-intensive. As Frank always says, “bring what you can, take what you need”.
