The Urban Barn Raising- The Scout Pit Work Party in Portland OR

I hope this is okay to post. We are trying to make it a community project and we really need to finish some of this up. If it is too off topic, I am okay with the moderators deleting it…

We are in the home stretch on finishing up the Scout Pit for our Grand Opening March 9th.

But we need your HELP for the Urban Version of a Barn Raising…

This Monday (Feb 25th) and this Tuesday (Feb 26th) would be two days of work.

If you can come for all, GREAT, if you can just come for part… that’s okay, WE NEED AS MANY hands as we can get.

We plan on doing a big Potluck Party Tuesday Evening @ The Scout Pit at 6:30pm to celebrate all the work we put in.

Here is what we need:

-Help finishing the rocket stove
-Help doing the Earthen Floor
-Help finishing the Kitchen

-a supply of good clay if anyone knows

-folks to bring their instruments and trade off working than making music

We want the whole two days to be a party.

PLEASE put the word on any lists you have or BRING ANY FRIENDS.

The energy is AWESOME every time we have tons of people at the Scout Pit!

You learn about Rocket Stoves, you learn about Earthen Floors, you learn about cobb and natural building.

Honestly, it is not as in-depth as our weekend workshop in terms of instruction but if you can learn by doing loads of work, this is your chance.

Thaddeus will be your captain, he has been working overtime to make this happen. I want twenty or more people there (some playing music, most working) to really show him some support. We should be working 9-5. I know, it is late hours but TrackersNW will supply the refreshments.

I want both days to be a celebration. Our version of community Barn Raising.

Please, Reply to Me ASAP if you are coming. Your support would be so much appreciated.

Also, we need…

-people to run cool events at our Grand Opening
-someone to help coordinate the evening parties

THERE ARE two parties @ our Grand Opening, March 9th. A 6-9pm Barn Dance and a 9-12pm Disco Party (complete with the ReWild Disco Ball).

We can have two separate coordinators.

We are finishing this Earthen Floor, anyone know of a good source of clay (ideally as pure as we can get).

Cheers, Tony, trackersnw.com

The “Scout Pit” has been hoppin’. There were tons of people today!! Mixing clay, straw and such to cob. Pounding floors, eating mexican food. Eating well!

And we still have a chunk of work to do, so we STILL need YOU:)

It was awesome to see everyone coming together and doing all this work to make the Pit…

-local, non-toxic and awesome

This space is perfect for the kind of bustling community that has been happening there for the past two weeks.

Come by again, or come for new if you haven’t already.

its at 5040 SE Milwaukie Ave, Portland OR (we are around back, you can’t miss us mixing cob)
Call ahead if you can, 503.453.3038 (that’s me)
Pass the word on to friends and family.

SHOUT OUT! We also need MORE clay and WE REALLY NEED linseed oil.

Charlemagne (our house rabbit and furry King) is REALLY hoping that things get done fast.
He is stuck in his boring ol’ cage until the humans finish the floor.
We are hoping give him free reign of the Pit again soon, but that means the floor needs to get done.

I have been SO excited to see everyone there. Truly making this space a community space.

Keep it coming.

Hey Tony, sounds awesome. Whenever I make my way back to Portland I really want to see the place.

-Pete H.

hey, the creek at porcupine palace sent some clay back with me–last I heard, emily’s got it–let’s put it in!

We are nearly done with the floor (the help really helped)

and now we have…
