I live on my parents’ land, which is only two acres but it’s mostly woods so it’s a good two acres. On this small patch of land there are, luckily, more than a few large oaks, and naturally that means plenty of squirrels. I’m planning on setting up a few squirrel poles, and already have one set up. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these, and if there’s anything I can do to raise their success rate. At the moment, the one I set up is a long piece of maple, and the snare loops are just some thin steel wire I had lying around.
The whole purpose of the pole is to get the little buggers to use it… The best trick is to lean the pole against the tree and “bait” the center of the pole by tieing a few strung nuts onto it, that way you get ones coming down from the tree and up from the ground to get them.
