Skills shares/rewild camps in new england

does anyone know of any skill shares or rewild camps happening in the new england area? i’ve never been to one, but would love to.
thanks

I don’t know of any, but I’d totally be in to putting something together if we could get a bunch of people.

It’s a snap to get people together, really. Check out the page I made to help you do just that:

The basic idea:

http://www.rewild.info/fieldguide/index.php?title=How_to_organize_a_Rewild_Camp

And a more thorough draft of the same:

If you need my help for setting up the web page in the rewild camp section, let me know!

i’m more than down.

pukwes - where abouts are you?
i’m in central mass, near the quabbin reservoir.

i’m still tossing the idea around in my head as i’d really like to, but am not sure yet if i will be around the area in the next 6-8 months.

if so, i may have a good place to do it. i’m involved with a piece of land here that i might be able to get for free and it’s a good, secluded site.

lets keep the idea rolling and i’ll know more from my end in the next month.

patrick- i live in brewster ny, its right across the ny/ct border from danbury ct. a couple of hours from western mass maybe 3 hours from your area. that would be tight if we could have a gathering on that land your talking about. i hope you can be around but either way we should try and meet up at some point anyways, maybe have a more personal, small scale, skillshare. i’ve been talking with incendiary dan a little about doing just that. this way we could get to know each other and see if we can work well together on organizing a larger event, and at the very least learn something from one another. keep in touch

I’m partially responding now to get this on the main page again and get people to notice it again.

Has anyone gotten anything more put together on this? Patrick’s proposed spot sounds pretty good, and there are also a bunch of public parks and forests in the area. Perhaps we could try getting together to forage and share knowledge about some plants.

I know at least a couple of folks in Rhode Island who would be down for it.

wow great to see people talking about this again, i’d love to meet up soon. i have the month of april off from school so i will have more free time. i’ve been thinking about options for a larger gathering and would like to suggest a hike or trek instead of a camp. or perhaps a trek ending at a camp? the wildroots collective has been putting on wild foods hikes on the AT down south for a few years now and they’ve been a huge success in my opinion. we could do 3 or 4 days on the AT or some other trail but broaden the focus to all things related to rewilding. i think a hike as oppossed to a camp will strengthen our abilities to practice certain skills on the move, so obviousley crucial to rewilding. it also brings a sense of adventure to the gathering. but anyway, we should get together and talk about this in real life, i’m willing to take a drive up to r.i. or mass or figure something out down here. what are peoples thoughts about this

A good hike would be great, especially if I get around to making my mocs.

Raw umber, where in RI are your people located? I’m up in the northwest, just short of the Mass border. If we can figure out where everyone is coming from, we can hopefully figure out a place that’s best for all of us.

I haven’t heard back from anyone in awhile, and there might be newer people in the area, so it’s time to revitalize this thread.

I really want to get something together this summer. A small rewild camp or skillshare would be great, and I’m willing to do as much of the necessary work as I need to. Lets put together something to be proud of!

Alright, I guess I’ll be organizing this myself. Last chance to help, everyone!

I’m thinking of setting up a weekend-long rewild camp somewhere in southern New England sometime next month. It will probably be at the end of the month. Location, at the time being, is likely to be at some sort of inexpensive state campground. If I have the money to, I’ll likely front the money for one campsite, but of course people can get their own (or might need to, if we get too many people). Maybe it’ll end up being right here at my parents’ house in the forests of northern RI.

Also, one of the local privately owned “natural foods” stores is trying to plan activities to get people together and build community. I’m thinking of doing some sort of Rewilding 101, and perhaps get some half-baked hippies to move beyond their unexamined dependence on civilization. I recently attended a “weed walk” being hosted by a middle-aged witch, at which every person expressed belief in collapse, so I’m sure there’s plenty of people interested.

Another idea I just had: a series of weekly talks/workshops about rewilding, civilization, etc., which lead up to a camp/skillshare. This seems like a potentially good way to get people interacting and used to each other, as well as just generally recruiting more people.
