What if all that radical media I have exposed myself to, really just encouraged me to buy into the same narrative of individuality that the dominant culture has, only it was dressed up in anarchist clothes?
Do you have some specific media you can use as an example? Or several examples?
Also, what do you mean by the narrative of individuality?
I’m interested to hear more details too, Nathan.
(Side note: Here’s at least one documentary on the subject of recent and deliberate beefing-up of a “narrative of individuality”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJ3RzGoQC4s.)
Sorry, still getting used to the forum, thought I would get email notifications.
I guess what I am talking about is how many things (especially in white radical media) still frame things around individual rights. Also even if the stated end goal is communal, the calls to action are often based on the individual. Another point is that the music and fashion represented are often some version of rock. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy rock music, and I even attempt to make it sometimes, but so much of it is based on being an individual, a loner, a star, etc.
Are you talking about the anarchist “scene”? I still don’t know what you mean.
