Rabbit processing

a quick slideshow on prepping a cottontail in your kitchen. way easier than i thought

didn’t show up for me for some reason. dug the music though, thanks for that…

reload it a few times if needed. bowdrill on there too

this might make it easier.
in order to get the guts out i poked a blade just beneath the sternum and sliced down. most of it spilled out but i had to dig out the heart, lungs and other fun stuff. check the kidneys and liver for spots (tularemia). you can cook this out supposedly, i’ve never found a bunny with it but i don’t eat bunnies in the warmer months, yet.
i braised this one in red wine liberated from a restaraunt, cloves, garlic, onion and olive oil.
have fun

Sweetness!!! Thanks for the link. Great well taken photos.

Roadkill bunny!

I nabbed one on Saturday. It’s in TrollSplinter’s freezer.

Any tips on tanning rabbit hides? The rabbit was dead for at least 3 hours, probably longer.

rabbit hides are really thin and can rip. the hair tends to slip easily. don’t keep it wet too long.

Skalopsky J. Nettles has it right from my experience. Wild rabbits and hares have very thin, delicate skin. Farm raised rabbits can be different.
These are snowshoe hare skins, snared in winter in their white phase.
