Porcupine Palace healing arts skill share

For all of you that came to Porcupine Palace’s February skill share, you may want to make the journey once again for the healing arts skill share this September. This will probably be the only promotion besides word of mouth, and we won’t be posting online directions this year. We had a wonderful turn out for the last one, and I hope to see all the same folks back again in September, with some buddies perhaps.

We ran out of time for the amount of workshops we had last time, so this one will be a couple days longer. We haven’t set the dates in stone yet, they will be posted later. Anyone out there interested in instigating a workshop? As of now it looks as though we will have;

*massage
*acupressure
*medicinal plant ID
*tincturing
*healing sex (work)

A bunch of other non-healing specific workshops will be going on as well. Go ahead and throw up anything you can offer, or would really like to see offered.

Penny Scout, I would be stoked if you could make it and do yr intuitional herbalism workshop. I missed it last time and heard it was awesome.

Yarrow Dreamer, (afraid of spelling yr name wrong ::slight_smile: I was bummed we never had time for yr self massage workshop. Could you come and do it for real this time?

This sounds fantastic! do you have any dates in mind yet?

I wanna have it in the first half of the month so that school won’t be in for everyone yet. I also don’t want to conflict with labor day because of Bumbershoot here in Seattle. I’m gonna talk to David later today and decide on a tentative week.

Looks like it’s gonna have to be the last weekend in September because of elk hunting season. This one will be four or five days though. Still working out the final dates…

awesome! simply and wonderfully awesome…

will be there again, for sure

i would like to suggest a martial arts workshop, perhaps one where a number of different disciplines can each present some things over the course of an hour or so…

does anyone know the crew that came up from harstine island down near olympia and had that kick ass cider?

i wanted to ask them about the cider and if they pressed it or where they acquired it from

-justin

Yeah, I know Mike. I’ll try and get him in touch with you. Can I give him yr number?

Also, with martial arts workshops, perhaps anybody willing to do intro type workshops for some different styles could have entire slots to themselves. Seems like a lot of stuff to cram into an hour or two unless we break them up. I think my buddy Shawn would do akido, Justin might do ving tsun, and you could do yours? I’d be really stoked on that!

I am trying to figure out how I can use the knowledge I’ve picked up while reading about eco-psychology. I certainly don’t feel up to the task of counseling anyone, that is a “skill” of sorts that I have not developed.

I believe that everybody who wants to foster a connection to nature has some grieving/healing to do over civilization’s onslaught of wild places… whether those places are out in the world, or psychic, inside the soul.

Can anyone help me find a way to incorporate this into the skill share? Maybe a group discussion, kinda like the doula talk? Perhaps there would be people willing to talk about their psychological healing process, much like at the last one with mothers who shared their birth stories.

awesome, after missing the last one, i’ll be really bummed if i don’t make it this time.

yes kestrel, totally give mike my number. i think he is friends with a friend of mine, diego, also.

we could make a big martial arts seminar at the palace. maybe 2 hours? it would be great. i can teach a basic intro to tae kwon do.

Oh how exciting! ;D

Big change of plans. The skill share is going to be in Seattle! Rewilding in an urban environment is all that is available to many of us right now, and I think it is valuable to highlight the positive aspects of city living cuz it’s so easy to get run down by it as well. I also think more people will be able to make it, and alot more food collection will be able to happen.
It is still gonna have a healing arts focus, as well as food collection and preservation. If anybody has a cider press hook up, let me know! Goose hunting will be attempted so have ideas for how to accomplish that. Yard camping and floor space will be available in at least a couple of houses, so if you don’t live in town come rock it anyhow!

Awwwww, seriously? I really looked forward to visiting Porcupine Palace again. maybe I’ll get back there some other time. ;D

yeah, hmmm, i guess that’ll save me travel time, but I was looking forward to getting out of the city. maybe next time.

Yeah, there will definately be more skill shares to come at the palace. They also are open to visitors at anytime. There still is a chance that one will happen at the Palace in September, but David is in Bella Coola and difficult to coordinate with right now. We shall see…

Ok ok, for real now, here’s the plan. While I am still gonna do the Seattle thing, I talked to some 'Piners last night. The healing arts share will be up there after all on the 19th-22nd of Sept. The urban food hunt bonanza will still be in seattle, most likely on the 13th and 14th of Sept.
Whew! The joys of communication, I tell ya!

That’s extra good. I’ll be at both for sure.

Sounds like fun! I will help as much as I can.

Hey Kestrel,

Fen and I are planning on coming to the skill share, and he told me it would be cool if I could teach a workshop on Reiki. I’d love to share what I know about it, so if you need more people to lead workshops, I’d be more than willing to try it out!

awesome! I’ll see you there, and hopefully attend your workshop as well.

Now that I think about it, my friend Amara wrote up a pretty sweet description about this skill share so I’ll go get that and repost it.
