Around fifteen years ago I started thinking about buriel and cremation. Most of know that cremation uses a great deal of energy and we need to stop consuming so much energy. Buriel without all of the “modern stuff” seemed like the sensible thing to me. Since then I have found many green buriel cemetaries around the country and feel there will be more to come. This is great if you are in a rural area but I want to brainstorm acceptable options for people living and dying in congested areas like most cities.
Thinking about “without all the modern stuff”… what about all those artificial things (plastics, metals, batteries) in people’s bodies?
Today I learned that all the metal remains are sorted from the ashes, collected and sold once a year; the money made from these gets donated to some charity.
