GoogleFight

I just discovered this cool little tool that compares how many google hits two different searches get.

For shits and giggles, I put in and and got these results.

wilderix = 547 results urban scout = 1,850,000 results

Then I thought, “Well, is probably getting hits off ever page that has “urban” and “scout” in it. So to be more fair, I should put Peter’s moniker in quotes.” Doing so returned these results.

wilderix = 547 results "urban scout" = 5 results

Some more fun ones

Hmm. I have to say, I don’t quite understand how that works.

When I search “Urban Scout” (in quotes) on google I see 13,500 results… many more than 5. Can you explain that?

I think this says it all.

anudda one.

i wonder howmany times the C word has been used hereabouts. probably a sickeningly high number.

i vow to never use the word again. from now on, i will refer to civilization and society as “the fucked up shit”, to coin a crass monicker, and will respond to any inquiries into what fuckedupshit specifically with “if you don’t know, i refuse to tell you.”

I don’t get it either. There’s no telling how exactly they are passing the words you enter over to the google search engine. It may be that they are searching for occurances that actually have quotes in them.

Mostly, I just thought it was funny. Mostly.

I prefer to pass the words to google myself. Do a search Myself. I have to do 2 of course. But it’s ok, at least I know its accurate.

The problem with some words are that nowadays they are used in odd contexts, and the whole alternate spelling thing. For example, Civilisation can be spelled Civilization, and the former more often than not refers to the game of same name (at least when my friends use it, i tend to hang out with geeks/nerds a lot!!)
