FERAL VISIONS AGAINST CIVILIZATION
Announcing the 5th Annual Green Anarchist Gathering!
July 27th – August 5th, 2007 (full moon on the 29th)
In the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range of Central/Northern California

Come gather in the wild beauty of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range of
Central/Northern California! This gathering is for all who desire to engage
in rewilding: physically and mentally, discussions on self-reliance,
spirituality, resistance, community building, and of course
anti-civilization theory. Expect to see skill sharing and knowledge of
ancestral life ways, primitive/earth based skills, urban primitive/practical
skills, D.I.Y./self sufficiency skills, mental and physical health, self
defense, wild edible and medicinal plants, industrial collapse and anything
else your wild and defiant imagination can conceive!

As we gather in wilderness, our goal is to help break down mediation between
ourselves and our world, empower each other, make stronger connections with
one another and our earth, and apply our dreams and visions to our lives.
This event is centered on active participation and is only as fruitful as
what each of us bring of our knowledge and experience as well as a desire to
learn. This gathering is FREE to all. Some food will be provided (at least 2
meals a day) but for the most part be prepared to be relatively
self-sufficient.

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring what you need (depending on your level of domestication), including
several layers of warm clothes (it’s high elevation, so it can get cold at
night), swim clothes, rain gear, personal eating utensils and bowls, knife,
money for distros and things, goods for the trading blanket, sleeping bag or
blankets, tents or tarps, flashlight, water filter, toilet paper, snacks and
lunch for yourself, water containers, small cook stoves and fuel for
personal meals. THERE MAY BE FIRE RESTRICTIONS. Bring musical instruments,
propaganda, friends and family, respect, security consciousness, special
skills and knowledge, and an enthusiastic and participatory attitude!

THINGS WE NEED:
We are looking for: bulk food (rice, grains, beans, spices, dried foods,
veggies, roots, etc.). Large cooking utensils (stock pots, pans, knives,
5-gal. lidded buckets, large water jugs, garbage bags, propane stoves and
fuel, material for latrines and their upkeep (shovels, wood ash, buckets,
T.P., soap, etc.), tarps and ropes for communal kitchen, instructors to give
more formal discussion workshops and specific skills and FINANCIAL
DONATIONS! This one is important. It takes a lot of energy, time and money
to put on a gathering of this scale; we have a lot of time and energy, but
not a lot of money. So, if you can donate, or put together benefits, please
do so as it would be much appreciated.

WHAT TO LEAVE HOME:
You’ll be hiking in, so minimize your possessions you want to carry. PLEASE
LEAVE YOUR DOGS AT HOME. Please leave weapons, heavy drugs, recording
devices (including cameras and video cameras) at home as well. Abusers and
abusive behaviors will not be tolerated at this gathering. Come to
participate, not to drain. This event is for all of us to participate in,
not just those who initiated the call.

AT THE SITE:
The site is at a high elevation so it’s cold at night, warm, even hot,
during the day. It is a wild place and needs to be treated with care and
respect. We want to create as little impact to the site as possible. There
will be a designated kitchen, latrines, workshops and camping areas. It will
also be at the height of fire season, with possible fire closure, so extra
care will be necessary (possibly including no personal fires and extreme
caution when smoking). Please pack out everything you bring in.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:
We want to keep the schedule open for spontaneous eruption, but will have a
daily formal schedule presented each morning. We expect lots of folks with
certain skills and knowledge to be present, so we want to be flexible. We
hope informal discussions and skill-shares will naturally occur. We do
recognize, however, that some folks will not be present for the entire
event, and that with large numbers of people, some informal structure can
help. We have decided to propose loose themes for each day, both on the
theoretical and practical level. These are suggested general orientations.
There will be a morning circle and info boards to let folks know what
discussions and skill-shares will be happening.

Anyone planning on going to both Feral Visions and 10k Ways?

Anyone planning on going to both Feral Visions and 10k Ways?

Where is the 10k Ways going to take place this year, Rob?

Curt

ON EDIT: I checked out IshThink.org and found out where 10Kways is going to be this year.

Welcome to Ten Thousand Ways!

Ten Thousand Ways seeks to organize gatherings where tribal-minded people from up and down the Pacific Coast come together to share ideas, make plans, and network. Many of us have read the books of Daniel Quinn (Ishmael, Story of B, My Ishmael), studied deep ecology and animism or feel a strong tie to the land around us. However, coming to our event requires none of this; just arrive with an open mind!

Last year, we used an Open Space format for event planning (see www.openingspace.net for details). Our theme was “Life after Civilization: Building the Web of the Future.” We held a variety of energetic workshops including making stone tools and fire, a guide to animism, SHIFT: Feral movement, critique of modern systems, and analysis of sustainable energies.

This year, our theme is One Step Towards the Mystery. What kind of life would you envision us leading in the future? Describe what this amazing world looks like! More importantly, what steps can you take right now to work towards that end? What networking can be accomplished among us to start making small steps for everyone toward that future frontier?

The next Ten Thousand Ways gathering begins just outside Ashland, Oregon at 4:00pm Thursday, August 9th and finishes at noon Monday, August 14th, 2006. We reserved a group camping site, so don’t forget your sleeping bag!

Getting to Ten Thousand Ways:

Right on the I-5 for those traveling by car, Ashland lies just north of the border between Oregon and California. Ashland has a train station as well. For those arriving by air, both Medford and Portland have an airport. Portland’s costs run cheaper; less than 300 miles north of Ashland, Portland, too, has a train station. The closest train station is in Klamath Falls, which is a short drive.

Directions to the camp site will be provided on our website in the next couple of weeks.

What To Bring:

A sleeping bag
A form of shelter, from a tent to a tarp
A sturdy water bottle
A swim suit and towel (for those who plan to swim)
A flashlight
Toiletry kit
Clothes for 4 days / 3 nights of camping + travel
A rhythm instrument, if possible (drums are welcome as are most forms of music)
Sunscreen

Food, Glorious Food:

Offered: 13 meals (to account for snacks), $5 per group meal

Ideally, we share most meals between attendees, on either a large or small scale, with the costs and work split between the people. Several conventional sources of food can be found in Ashland, including the Ashland Co-op and local farmer markets. Please ensure that you bring at least $5 per meal, for 13 meals. This means the average person would contribute $65 for food and we think that should cover us all well.

We need volunteer leaders to help organize our food plan. Part of this whole exercise is to find paths to work together tribally. We can make a menu for the weekend and shop at the Ashland Co-op, local farmers’ markets and also plan some U-Pick trips and wild berry picking. The food aspect to the trip can be important and vital.

We can create a whole exploration exercise for planning the food, but only if people want to go there. Someone has to have the skills – planning, cooking, clean-up schedule, right?

Pets:

If you wish, you can bring your dog with you, but due to park policy they must remain on a five foot leash and only allowed in the campgrounds. If you do bring a dog, please act as a responsible friend and owner and bring everything necessary for their health and comfort.

How to Register:

For registration, please send a line to Chuck (slumberelegy@gmail.com) with the number of people in your party. If you have any concerns or issues, or if you would like to attend but need help with either getting to the site or obtaining equipment, you can contact either Chuck (above) or Bill Maxwell (coyote_dreaming@pacbell.net).

<>We hope you will join us in this special time, during the height of the Perseids meteor shower, at Ten Thousand Ways, during the height of the Perseids meteor shower, at Ten Thousand Ways.

Thanks for sharing this information about 10k ways. It sounds like FUN!

Huby 7, bless you and thank you soooooo much for your post. I hope I make it. I need and want more stuff like that in my life. I believe without the post I may have lost out again on another grand opportunity for my adventure. I have done the feral thing for awhile alone or with people who have similar experience to mine, but only recently with SHIFT and this do I feel like I have gone to a new level of uncolonization into the New Tribal Revolution. I look forward to engaging with the people their and learning from people who have gone rewild longer than I have. I feel quite certain that this for me will feel like an experience of a lifetime or at least one that I will never forget, for it sounds like my first BIG step into staying feral forever, shifting me into decolonized person completely except that I see myself coming back once and a while to pass on a lot of what I have learned and experienced for free!

I’m really happy to here this. And good luck on your journey to becoming a feral and decolonized person.

Take care,

Curt

“feral forever”. I just said that. I know, but I’d rather had said “it sounds like my first BIG step into living without civilization support forever or the rest of mylife.”

Night.

hey everyone- the ride board is now up on the FV web page. there’s still a
few kinks to work out but it is useable.

for those who are trying to make travel plans without specific directions,
the deal until further notice is the directions won’t be released until
later. check the web page one week before the gathering (july 20) for
specifics.

Be sure to bring eating dishes and utensils! OR, be prepared to eat off of
pieces of bark! Also, make sure to bring water vessels.

also, on your way to the gathering don’t forget to dumpster (fresh)
produce, pick up roadkill, and forage craft materials. And bring a knife
and other personal tools if you can, as well as musical instruments.

happy trails!
