Exodus

My first post here, thanks to Penny Scout for the url…

It doesnt really matter to me if the current order collapses in 5 years (2012, anyone?) or 50 - Getting out from under it is the first concern, imo.
Living by example, not only can we demonstrate the viability of our culture(s), we can remove ourselves from the exploiter’s systems, and live comfortably amidst “interesting times”.

So late spring / early summer will find me scouting out possible base-building areas south of my current location. The wooded hills of the E. coast are my first choice, preferably somewhere not quite as cold as Pennsylvania…

But networks and centers of culture must be nearby, or I may disappear into my navel / turn into Teddy Kaczynski.

Any suggestions welcome - And I would love to hear any success stories and plans in progress, aimed towards similar ends…
(Mods - sorry, wasn’t quite sure where to put this)

Your post looks like it’s in the right spot to me, Wildermensch.

I’ve started scouting out the regions around where I live. I’m encouraged by the fact that I can get from here to where my parents (a 4 hour drive across the state) live via one river and a very large creek. Granted, that canoe trip will take a lot longer than 4 hours, but it will probably be a lot easier than trekking across the Ozarks to see whether I need to bury my parents or bum some ammo from them.

I find myself, every time I take a drive now, looking at the land from a “hmm, how good would it be to live/forage/hunt/fish here” perspective. Every new person I meet, I’m sizing them up to see if they would be beneficial to my tribe.

I agree that the timing doesn’t matter. Getting out is the main concern.

Rix -your comment about your parents reminded me of the plan my man and I have in case of emergency. We live an hour away from eachother so if something disasterous were to occur we’ve agreed on a meeting spot halfway between our houses and mapped out the best way to get there unseen. Luckily our houses lie on either side of a national forest so pratically the entire route is wooded and once we get to the middle which also happens to be the most remote and roadless spot in the forest we will be all set to survive from that base camp. Future steps include 1)practicing the route. 2)installing caches.

recently (the last couple years) ive been learning all the bike routes, train tracks, walking paths, wooded areas from my house to outside the city. i have scouted several park preserves where i can stop/pass through and reload on food and other essentials.
our highway system is built to military specifications. this means at anytime the military can completely surround any city in the whole fucking country. we will be trapped like caged dogs where we will be left to feed upon the flesh of humans. i dont know about you but to me that sounds like fucking hell. we are creating hell on earth. and i am going to get as far away as possible. and your right Wildermensch, it doesnt matter when, if it happens to me or my children (when or if i have them). but those i know and love will be ready and prepared to get the fuck out (sorry for all the swearing, im just in a swearing mood).

another suggestion for anyone looking to be able to make an exodus from the city. learn high speed survival and scout/tracking skills. this is whats going to keep those you love safe from the insanity that will bear down upon us all.

I’m in the middle planning stages myself for an expedition to scout a quiet path out of town… made all the more challenging by the fact I live on a heavily-urbanised peninsula. Beyond the narrow corridor outta town are a few pockets of state woodland, and beyond that some sparsely populated downland. I’ve got as far as the woods before now, and the purpose of my next trip will be to size up a path beyond it via a railway bridge over a river.

If the shit hits the fan where I am, I’m going to have to get out in the early stages since it’ll be all to easy to shut people in here. It’s happened before… in 2000 we had an outbreak of cattle disease (so they sealed off all rural paths) coinciding with a fuel shortage caused by protests at fuel tax, sparking refinery blockades, sparking panic buying (so people weren’t driving far). Nobody went anywhere for about 2 weeks and the shops emptied fast. If it had hypothetically carried on like that people would have just starved/rioted. So yes, exodus plan = mucho important.
