Chia

Yes Chia as in Chia pets, Chia heads etc. This seed is considered to be the food of the warrior in Apache heritage. It was used by the Aztecs as both food and legal tender.
Extremely nutrious, highly portable, easy to digest, and one of the very rare foods that has NO allergy reactiants. 8)
Because it absorbs liquid at a rate of better than 10 to 1 it can be combined with any food to increase overall food volume which makes it great for diets. Because it also does not react to other foods it will not change the flavor of foods it is added to. 8)
As part of the mint/sage family it also has medicinal uses as well, being mixed with water and spread as a poultice it promotes wound healing, will ease the swelling and draw the poison of most insect stings. Mixed with salt and water then allowed to โ€œswellโ€ it can be used to cover rashes of all kinds (yes it stings a little but less than most ointments). :-\
It also contains a natural form of caffine that helps promote energy and yet does not produce the jitters like coffee or black tea. ;D
Of not to women in particular it has a calming effect on the body before, during and after ovulation. In nursing mothers it aids in lactation and produces a richer milk. :o
One final note when soaked in water for 24 hours and then the chia seeds are removed the resulting โ€œmilkโ€ has a very similar taste to low fat/skim milk and can be used in recipes that call for milk. :-*

And obviously, they can be easily grown on decorative pieces of terra cotta!
