And you, TrollSplinter: darest you threaten those who harness the killing power of rabbit snares? Methinks you dare too much.
How about at the visitor’s center? 3801 West Government Way. I know that buslines 33 and 24 (and maybe some more as well) will get you close to that address.
And anyone who wants to be extra sure can PM me for my cell number.
PM’d ya. I’ll be there.
ben.
No wabbits. But fun was had!
And Rebecca got stung by a bee and screamed like a little girl. (You guys, it was the meanest bee ever. You should have seen its glowing eyes and gnashing teeth. I’m lucky I survived. My catlike instincts took over and I flung it to a distant part of the universe with a frantic shaking of my hand, where its very life withered under the indifferent stare of a cold dying star.)
Seriously, though, I think that by using hardwood saplings and with more knowledge of the rabbits’ habits (ha ha) we would have a chance.
We constructed a prototype of a twitch-up snare:

We also talked about the squirrel snare below the twitch-up but we didn’t try to make one.
It turns out we all had plans for the coming week that would keep us from checking the snares. Also we didn’t have the time to seek out some rabbit trails. So some time later we’ll go back and do it again with the real intent to kill. Much like that bee on my hand.
hey; sign me up for seattle weekly meets!! I’m out foraging at discovery or seward 2 or 3 times a month.
great! i’m busy next weekend, but you should def try to meet up with us all the weekend of the 13th.
Hey count me in, might find me wandering around that weekend up for something.
If I’m not mistaken, I think the urban food hunt in Seattle is still happening that weekend. Anyone know for sure?
Unless something’s changed, I’d assume so, but Trollsplinter hasn’t said anything about in awhile. By the way, I could try my darndest to be helpful in the logistics of this thing.
I was in das woods, and so quiet on the matter, but yes, the 13th and 14th of sept. my place, be there or be square!
Does anyone want to be part of a rabbit snare building expedition on Saturday? This would also involve checking the snares throughout the week.
PM me if you’re interested… we can pick the place, swap phone numbers, and pick a time to meet. And even if you can’t make it, if you have any info on where the bunny scene is hip and happening in Seattle, I’d be very curious about that. I know they’ve done a couple of rabbit removal projects but perhaps their populations have rebounded in places I don’t yet know about…
We would have to get a very early start so that we can talk about/experiment with the types of snares we want to use, then find some rabbit trails, then proceed to place snares. I believe it will take all day.
Hey, since the healing arts skill share got canceled, anybody who planned on going in the Seattle area want to make something else happen that weekend? I got the time off and the time to do so lets!
Tomorrow the last day of summer? Autumn equinox takes place on the 22nd right? Anyone want to take part in some festivities?
